- We also need prayer for financial partners to join with us for trips from the National Director.
- We ask for prayers for God’s divine provision for funds for an upcoming outreach to revive Aglow in The Gambia.

Interesting Facts About The Gambia
Background: In the 10th century, Muslim merchants established some of The Gambia’s earliest large settlements as trans-Saharan trade hubs. These settlements eventually grew into major export centers sending slaves, gold, and ivory across the Sahara. Between the 16th and 17th centuries, European colonial powers began establishing trade with The Gambia. In 1664, the United Kingdom established a colony in The Gambia focused on exporting enslaved people across the Atlantic. During the roughly 300 years of the trans-Atlantic slave trade, the UK and other European powers may have exported as many as 3 million people from The Gambia.
In 1965, The Gambia gained its independence from the UK. Geographically surrounded by Senegal, it formed the short-lived confederation of Senegambia between 1982 and 1989. In 1994, Yahya JAMMEH led a military coup overthrowing the president and banning political activity. JAMMEH won every presidential election until 2016. In December 2016, after 22 years of authoritarian rule, President JAMMEH lost to Adama BARROW during free and fair elections. Due to The Gambia’s poor human rights record under JAMMEH, international development partners had substantially reduced aid to the country. These channels have now reopened under the administration of President BARROW. Since the 2016 election, The Gambia and the US have enjoyed improved relations. US assistance to the country has supported military education and training programs, capacity building, and democracy-strengthening activities.

A mighty MIRACLE to share: Since I have been praying for the people of the Gambia since our conference in 2016, while at the 2017 Global Conference in Richmond I inquired at the registration tables if anyone had come to the conference from Gambia. I was told, that at that time, no one had come or been pre-registered from Gambia. However, I was constantly asking people if they had met or heard of anyone from Gambia. I had a burning within me to conect with someone from this country that I had been praying for .
Heading back to our hotel, later in the day of the flag prcoession. I am amazed to see a woman get on OUR BUS with her sash or banner still on, that says “Gambia”. We only had minutes to talk but it was so awesome. We thanked the Lord that we both spoke English. She shared with me that she and her husband had been muslims until her husband had a dream about Jesus. They both were saved and now are pastors of the church in their town and she is the Aglow President in her area. The Lord knew the desire of my heart and did the miracle to see it happen for which I am so very grateful. Also, i am so pleased that this March, we as Aglow have been praying more specifically for the Gambia. I would love to somehow get in touch with this dear sister in Gambia, but do not want to jeopardize their safety. Also, thank you dear leaders of Aglow for your faithfulness in this powerful, on target ministry which is led by Holy Spirit.
